I've been shooting with a Rebel XS for the past few years and recently have gotten much more serious about my photography. I've been shooting a lot more and starting taking local classes to improve my skills.

I've been lurking here for a while and have read, ad nauseam the posts comparing the 7D with the 5Dmii. Instead of adding to the mayhem, I spent a lot of time looking at my pictures to decide the best fit for me. I noticed that my pictures were mostly landscape, city, my kids, etc. Also, I have a need for good low light ISO for taking school play, dance recital, etc. types of pics. This lead my down one path and one path only (in my price range) so I bought the 5Dmii with the 24-105L lens. I'm so excited and it will be here Tuesday!!

So I went to the forum to sell my nifty two-fifty (Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS) and my EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. I'm selling the nifty two fifty since its an EF-S lens and the 28-135 since I will have the range covered with my new L-lens. Unfortunately I can't sell them on here because I have not made 30 posts. So in an attempt to up my post count to 30 to sell my lenses, I've started this thread. If interested in either lens, please PM me. Thanks.

I can't wait till Tuesday!!!!:)

I can't wait to get a 5DmkII. Been lusting over one since they came out. I hope I have the money for one when they dip below $2k for refurbished units. I'm hoping the 1Dsmk4 will be a really good camera and some people will want to upgrade. ;)

Are you planning on getting a 70-200L ? I love mine and think it would really come alive (for portraits) on full frame. :)

I would love to get a 70-200L, but for now I want to spend the time learning the new camera and exploring the 24-105L. This will be my first L-lens and can't wait to get to know it.

Wow, that's quite a jump from the XS to the 5D2. Just wait until you see what it does at ISO 3200. You can use that 24-105 indoors with no flash and get very sharp images with virtually no noise. Congrats!

Yeah, it is quite the jump up. I saw no sense in making incremental jumps over time. I thought that would just cause me to spend more money over time. The best high ISO pictures I could get with the XS were at ISO 800 so it really lacked (ISO 1600 was very noisy). Since the 5Dmii really excels in this area, I'm very excited to see what it can do. I plan on having and using this camera for many years to come.

I get a little giddy thinking of how I could use ISO6400 on a 5DmkII... the ability to shoot a 70-200 f/2.8 lens WITHOUT IS in a church, I've seen it done with good results!

Dude, I can tell you're going nuts waiting. I would be too.

You're going to see a huge difference in photo quality. The camera and lens combo you ordered will eaily take care of 90% of what you'll want to shoot. That's why that lens is usually sold as the kit lens with that camera. Personally, I'd recommend you get a 100-400 to go with it as well, and that will cover you for sports, airshows, ladies in bikinis, etc.

The combo you ordered is my dream setup. But it's a three-grand setup, so it'll be a while before I take that jump.

Congratulations and have fun. Try not to let the other photographers at the zoo, etc. get too close to the gear (drool isn't good for the camera's internal parts). ;)

Thank you. bw!

You could only get good results up to ISO 800 on the XS? I had one for a while and was able to get usable shots at 1600 utilizing ETTR.

ETTR (expose to the right) is a good thing to remember no matter which camera you're using. Noise is exaggerated in even slightly underexposed shots so anytime you're shooting at high ISO it is important to have properly exposed shots even if you have to overexpose a little and back off the exposure in PP.

Exactly one of the reasons for the upgrade. Don't get me wrong, the XS takes really nice pictures at low ISOs, but it is really limited in ISO range.

I shot my daughters dance recital and with the limited lighting and ISO 1600 I still could not expose to the right. When I got home, the pictures were slightly underexposed which made them very noisy. I tried to push them up in PP but that just exaggerated the noise.

I can't wait till Tuesday!!!!:)

I think right now I am where you were a few years ago. My first jump from P&S is a XSi,with the kit lens, the 50mm f1.8,and I even sprang for the EF-S 55-250,which I admit I bought on an impulse. My way of thinking was I wanted a pretty good jump up in pic quality from a P&S,and maybe the 55-250 would magically make my pics better. Well,I really have only taken a few shots with it, and most probably due to my inexperience,I'm not really pleased with the shots. I'm sure it's "the workman",and not "the tool" that's at fault, and as I learn more,I'll probably get better. Where am I going with this?? Well,in golf,a high handicapper (like me!) benefits from user friendly clubs, i.e. bigger sweet spots, etc.
It must be the same in photography, that there are certain lenses that are "forgiving" for the new photographer. I purchased the 50mm f1.8,and have gotten some good shots with it. Would the EF 28-135 possibly be one of those "forgiving" type lenses, or does anybody have any recommendations? I know I still have much to learn regarding settings, f-stops,exposure,etc., but finding a good reliable all around lens that will keep my interest at a high level will help. Maybe in a few more years,I will be where you are now, buying the latest new Canon, and doing it proud.Or maybe I'll buy your "used" 5D mii from you as you upgrade!

I bought the 50mm f1.8 a while ago and learned a lot from using it. It was my first fixed focal length lens and I believe I have benefited from learning to position myself for the best angle without relying on zooming. I went to Colorado Springs for work for two weeks and took only that lens since I wanted to travel light. At times I really could have benefited from a wider lens which is another reason I can't wait to get the 24-105!
