I'm a totally newbie. After purchasing my 7D and thinking something was terribly wrong with my camera, I talked with a friend of mine about off camera lighting He gave me some pointers on lighting and my photos were GREATLY improved. I pulled these right off the camera with no adjustments whatsoever and the white balance set to auto on the camera. I was going to clean up the dust, but I figured this was just a lighting exercise so there was no need. I didn't want to do any post adjusting because I wanted to see how sharp this lens/body combo would be.

The setup:

Two Cheapie ($7.50) desk lamps from WalMart
Two GE Energy Smart 900 Lumens 6500K 15 watt spiral light bulbs
Canon 7D
Canon EF-S 60mm 2.8 Macro lens

The photos:

I think it still needs some tweaking, but I was just getting really frustrated with this camera because I couldn't get ANYTHING to come out sharp. Well, there is now hope as these are pretty damn sharp right out of the camera. :D
