The small group of 3 moved out of the way when I turned the mares out (morning a few days ago) .. but the Tom in this group wasn't worried about anything other than showing off (and posing for the camera?) A storm was coming in.. so it was a bit overcast.

snapshot of the 'environment'..

that is pretty awesome. Do the horses and turkey's not mind each other? I am also surprosed that the turkey's didn't run when they got the slightest hint of you.

Thanks y'all.
(CPO - it's nice to see the Navy insignia again.. my dad was career Navy). (Thank you for your service)

big country - They don't seem to have a problem with the horses. They're *careful* with us (because they're wild) but not overly parinoid. IF we were to shoot or harm any of them, then yes, they will remember and change their routine to avoid this area. I've got shots of them looking at their reflection in the sliding glass doors of my office. They tend to have a routine of changing routes. .. but they'll be here for a few weeks at a time, a few times per year. .. often enough that I think "do I really want to shoot more turkey photos?".

I shot this one a couple of years back - this group of boys were all trying to get the attention of one hen who was doing her best to ignore them.. LOL

(not very sharp)

ok.. I found the images of a few just outside my office door:

the door frame was included to give perspective

This was just outside my kitchen door

Very nice series of shots. I can see in that first shot just how impressed the ladies are with Tom. LOL

It's hard to believe that the wild turkey was endangered not too long ago. Conservationists like the Wild Turkey Federation have done a great job of bringing that big bird back. I was visiting NYC a few years ago, and about 15 miles outside of the city I saw a hen walk across the street. If there, why not anywhere?

Great series! I love the plumage on these birds. Great for tying fishing flies.
