Once a year the city opens up to the public a number of buildings and venues that are normally not accesable to public...or at least not for free! This weekend, the event took place again and I got a chance to visit and take a few shots at 3 different locations in the north end of the city.

The first group of shots is from the Zion School house built back in the 1870's when much of the area was farmland and woods.

I'll post more of the other buildings in a sperate post.

C&C appreciated!

Also, if anyone else did some shooting in this event, please feel free to post your pictures in this thread too and that way we can keep all the event pictures in one thread!

Cheers!

And these are the pictures I took at the Zion Church, built in 1873. The church was renovated back in 50's and then again in the 90's and now this building is being rented out for all types of events from weddings to art shows but they removed almost all of the original church pews so I did do a bit of Photoshop trickery on one of these shots to restore them back! You can be the judge of how poor my attempt was to do that.

Here's the pics...

Thanks!

The school house is in the Leslie and Finch area, on Finch, one light east of that main intersection.

Cheers!

Yeah, they sure did! But beyond the structural strength, I just really admire the architecture of that era. So many of today's modern building just seem like soulless shoe boxes. The older stuff had character!

Cheers!

I agree that new construction is a bit boring but structural strength is what made up the characteristics of building back then, arches, domes, columns

Love the Zion school shots. I haven't stepped in there since I was a kid on a school trip. You should try "antiquing" some of shots of the interior (if you have an empty classroom shot).

My lousy photos only consist of the CityTV studio and the Redpath Sugar Factory.

Thanks for the kind words on my shots and for the idea about the antiquing the interior shots! I may give that a try!

And your photos are not lousy! They're actually pretty good as you used a nice wide angle to really show a lot of detail of those two sites you visited. I was thinking about going downtown on Sunday to shoot some more spots but decided to stay in the north end of the city where there's free parking!

For a while there, I figured I was only person here who took any pictures so I'm very glad you posted yours and hope others will find this thread and post theirs too!

Cheers!

Nice shots of those old schools. Love the wide angles. Good work Jeff!
