I am very interested in attending an on line school for photography. Don't have time for a local class so this is the best for me. Has anyone had experiance with this sort of education and if so, could you make recommendations/comments on where you attended and the effectiveness of the school?

Thank You
Alan North

No direct experience, but the only one I've heard of is the New York Institute of Photography. Do a search for NYIP here in the forum as it is a subject that comes up every so often.

I'm curious about the costs of these courses. It seems that the tuition isn't listed on the website (so you'll have to share contact info to get it?).

I took the Proud Photography course, somewhere around $100. I found it to be an excellent value; IMO it was the best accessory I've ever purchased for my camera. No doubt it is not as extensive as the NYIP course. I would call it "basic". If you already know the basics, it may not be right for you.

You can also try looking at your local community college, or adult ed.

I actually just checked the pricing this morning. It's $700 if you pay up front or $1200 if you go with the installment plan, I think $100 first, then $49 a month. Typically people finish in about 12~24 months.

I'm thinking about this to motivate me to try new ideas. I don't have a fixed schedule and having something like this on the side would be fun.

I have to second the suggestion to check your local colleges. I know of more then a few which offer 'arts' or 'non credit' courses and are pretty decent. I'm of a mind that I'd like in person interaction for my money.
