Elvis C&C

I got the chance to do a little shoot with my friends' pretty newborn boy. The little guy doesn't have a name yet, but Elvis would definetly suit this little charmer. Anyways, here's some of the better shots I managed to take. All C&C is highly appreciated. It was my first time with Elinchrom Deep Octa so I'd especially like to get any hints on how to improve on lighting, thanks!

All shots were taken with Canon 5D, 135L and Elinchrom Ranger Quadra with Depp Octa and a bare strobe for background fill on some.

I love all of them except no.2.... don't like that the tip of babies head is cut off....

maybe it's my monitor, but they seem a bit bright to me. I would never take a picture of a baby with the pacifier in his mouth, if he is so fussy that he can't go without it for 1/250th of a second, it is time to call it and reschedule. Or give him a 10 minute break. Many of the newborn pics you see here are the result of the mom pulling out the pacifier, SNAP, and then putting it back in. You can't let it stay in too long either, or it will leave marks on his skin. Number three is my fav. You could have positioned yourself up a bit higher so his eyes aren't downcast. The size and shape of your lights can great catchlights but you want the babies eyes to be wide open and when he is looking down slightly, they aren't as wide as they could be.

Suecassidy, thanks for the detailed comments. It was actually my first time shooting a baby of any kind Only the father was present when taking these and for some reason he wanted the pacifier to be included. And having no experience with babies it didn't seem at all odd to me. A good point though that I'll have to be careful about in the future. He actually slept a while before we continued and had these marks you're talking about.

And thanks for the tip on no. 3, I never really noticed that. Will have to remember it as well in the future!

I've had a lot of comments about the brightness and now that I look at them it seems I did overdo it in PP. I really liked the result Deep Octa was giving on his skin and wanted to emphasize this with the brightness but I clearly overdid it. Well, live and learn!
