This is one of the shots from this weekends shoot. I'm pretty excited about it, however, I firmly believe that the only way I'll get better is through critique. So, let me hear what you think. (No comments about my mom please!)

Well this real good .. but not quite perfect. Areas that I would alter (or re-shoot) would be:

1: A bit less dark.. tends towards gloomy
2: Perhaps a more square -- including the model's shoulders
3: I think that the model is beautiful ... but ... the mood here is a bit too severe.

Take a look on the web for sample photos by Karsh as well.

Ha! She is quite sultry!

I agree with Howie that it is too dark. You could make it a little brighter without giving up the mood.

The forward shoulder causes her neck muscle to bulge, which looks a bit awkward. And the object hanging from her neck looks like a microphone - a small pendant (or nothing) would be less distracting.

The lighting looks good. Did you use a softbox? You might consider a little more fill coming in low from camera right, or perhaps bounced behind you. Just preference.

These are small issues; all in all it's a very good portrait!

you big?
she sexy..........

what's with the writing on her upper chest ?
I think thats maybe whats 'pulling in' her right shoulder
(amongst other things)

the copyrite notice is quite prominent, makes it look like a 'dont touch' sign

and in that area ?
well .......h'mmmm
maybe

: : )

good luck with your ego!
I think you are pulling our legs (and 'copyrite' is written all over mine too : )

regards
marie

I agree with Howie and Mitch.
Portait has possibilities and you are close.

Lightened a bit would make a difference.
mainly it shows hair on her left shoulder. That area is too dark.

Three other points :
1. That's no place for your copyright sign.
A BANNER ! !
A small discrete one down bottom corner is all you need.

2. The 3 light areas, shoulder, arm and chest look too distracting and fragmented.

3. Your key light position is ok.
For glamor portraits move it around a bit so the shadow is straight under the nose and not to one side.
Note: If done that way, the shadow should not reach
the upper lip.

Regards

A note on copyright, written all over photos. There's two possible reasons to do this: (i) you're totally paranoid that someone is going to use your hard won images for their own personal gain, and you can't stand the idea of that, or (ii) you're totally too egotistical and think that anyone gives a care to steal your images and use them badly. Given the subject line, perhaps you've self selected for option (ii), in which case just go over to photoSIG and check out the over 20,000 images in the category "erotic," and notice how many of *those* images have a copyright slapped on the model's chest. The other comments about the image are most appropriate.

cheers,

In regards to the copyright written all over the image, it's not ego and it's not paranoia. I just learned how to do it, I think slejhamer posted a how to (I'm not sure) and I guess I kinda went overboard. Like a kid with a new toy. Sorry, I guess I'm a geek. Anyway, thank you all for your comments. I must say, I've learned more from this forum than I have in a long time. Thank you all again. Take care and be safe, David

To me it looks like this picture was taken on the early morning after a rough night. Seems to me there is a lot more in this model. Start simple and work from there.
