Canon Rebate Troubles

I pre-registered online for my $20 rebate for the 100mm f/2.8 and sent everything in I was supposed to. I get a card in the mail the other day that says that an invalid UPC was submitted, and I need to resubmit within a couple of weeks to still get the rebate.

First of all, to pre-qualify online, you have to submit the UPC # from the box. Then, it is accepted and recognized as the lens you have. So, if I sent them the SAME UPC from the box that I pre-qualified online with, and it accepted as the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, how can that be invalid?

I did send them all three bar codes on the box, although they weren't all cut on the same piece. Are they just trying to dick me around or what?

God this is why I hate rebates! Sorry to hear your getting the normal runaround. But my buddy has some sort of method of copying everything he sends in and if they want it again he sends a copy of the copy. This might work for you if you have copies.

Canon seems to take a perverse pleasure in putting their customers through he** to get the rebates they have been promised. The company they hire to proces them has their own issues, but I've never seen a company require so much documentation as Canon does, which in turn increases the likelihood of errors.

Seems like alot of hassle for just 20.00.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Did you photo copy the upc that you sent? That's the only way you'll have proof.

online you can check your status, Ed. Although you might have had to pre-qualify. I did that both times.

I hope that they don't pull that **** on me, I'm expecting a $70 rebate for three lenses that I bought from them. Their online rebate tracking page says that there were NO errors and that the rebate is being processed.

I did mine online, printed card, put receipt, UPS code to envelope and got my 150 in 4 weeks, no problem at all.

I've found only one other company as hard to rebate as Canon, Sears!

got a grill at "the great indoors", and had to resend proof off reciept, etc.

Good rule for Canon, read and re-read the rebate directions. If they say you can send a copy, send the copy and hang on to the original I keep everything in a file and set a reminder on my calendar to check in a few weeks.

Bottom line you have to have a photo copy of all the material you send to Canon. I've been lucky so far with Canon and others that when I needed to resend proof, I had it. And I photo copy at work so I don't waste pennies at Kinkos :D

I also if allowed, staple all the rebate material together so it won't get lost hopefully by the cavemen running the rebate centers.

Hmm...that is what I did as well. I have had this sort of crap happen one other time too and the other two times I have done the rebates with Canon it has been fine. So now I have a stunning 50% success rate!

It isn't worth it for $20. It is just the principal of the matter that gets me and the feeling that this sort of thing is systematically done because they know customers don't care enough to hassle with it.
