Is it shallower DOF, or something else? Yes, the smaller DOF, the higher ISO capabilities and it'll make my lenses like the 24-105 and the 70-200mm alot better in terms of focal length.

The additional range is very useful, and it would pair well with your existing lenses, better perhaps than the 17-40. When you eventually go full-frame, you'll easily be able to sell it. I'll definetly going to wait with buying the 17-40mm and I'm going to take a look at the 12-24 and 10-22.
