also, it looks like you got there about 20 minutes TOO late for the perfect light. All appear to be a little dark with the subject (boat in last) not getting enough natural light.

I know you were late because this happened to me last week!

You need to make sure your horizons are straight... it looks like all the water in that lake is about to slide out of the frame :)

As synderman says, you probably timed it a little late to get the best light - the sky looks nice but there's very little light shining onto the trees. Also there's still probably a little too much dynamic range for your camera to handle so you could improve your photos by using a GND filter or by taking multiple exposures and combining them to make a single exposure where the ground is exposed as well as the sky.

Personally I always find landscape photography challenging, but from experience timing is key.

Some gentle hdr could be cool here.

Nice shots. I like the last 2 best.

If you have Photoshop then the Chromatic Aberation (blue + yellow fringing) on the boat is easy to fix.
Also, the front of the boat seems to be out of focus? Possibly within the minimum focus distance?

Agree with the HDR for the 1st 2.
For you, sir :P

HDR

very basically, you take some shots with bracked exposure (AEB) at say -2,0,+2. Then use either photoshop to combine them and alter the tone, or use a dedicated program like photomatix.

The trick is to not over do it and to make it look fairly natural. Quite fun to play with.

Ah - Just seen Christopher has posted a link - cheers chris

The problem with sunset shots is that as a consequence of exposing for the sky, silhouettes are formed. Sadly your silhoutted areas look like horrible blobs. Someone mentioned hdr and if the interesting sky could have been captured whilst retaining the detail in your first shot, you'd have a winner. However, I do like the emergency sign, the b/w suits it.
