Anyone have any guesses on the shelf-life of a Powershot G2?
I've got a c. 2000 model which was pretty much new when I bought it last year. But since then, it's been used as a webcam popping one shot a minute, every minute for about 14 hours a day average. So that's 300k+ shots this past year.
The shutter and mechanics seem fine but it's becoming increasingly disconnected from the 'puter. This because it is loosing power. It behaves as if there is short in the AC connection then other times not. You can put pressure against the male connector and it will come on about half the time. Release and it stays on. Maybe this coincidental as I can not get it to repeat the same pressure / charge config.
The battery is not charging. It will run with the battery in or out. The camera is fixed and undisturbed yet the is losing power randomly. I'm wondering where to begin to troubleshot this. Is:
1. The battery causing the grief?
2. The power supply failing?
3. There a short in the female (internal) circuit?
4. There a chip failure?
5. Designed obsolescence?
Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance and double thanks if it helps!
Hugh
