I think that I am getting a feel for angles and the timing of the sport, but know that there is always rook for improvement- C&C are welcome!

To come close to freezing the ball, I was at shutter speeds of 1/6400 & 1/8000-

Through the fence made this a little soft, but a boost in contrast helped a lot..

Very nice. Good action, faces, exposure good and for the most part, backgrounds are good, too. Only room for improvement might be to crop a bit tighter IF you can.

I struggle with the cropping- I can get tighter on most of them, but I am never sure if it will make a better photo- In the first one, for example, I was trying to include all of the activity, and keep the points of interest (the ball and the batter's face) roughly at the 1/3 intersections. Do you think I am better off cropping tighter, then ignoring the "rule of thirds"?

In number 2- how important are the feet? Maybe I should have cropped down to the upper body, and eliminated some space above the pitcher- probably could have gone with a horizontal crop in that case.

The fourth shot is a good example, and probably makes your case- I cropped out his feet in that one, in order to zoom on his face and the action- It seems stronger as a result.

Thanks for your comments- I'll have more to think about next time!

I saw a quick video tutorial on cropping. The main focus was start at the subject or area of interest and crop OUTWARD until elements that don't support the main subject start creeping into the frame. Move it inward a bit and save.

Crop the first one tighter. Having the ball in the frame doesn't do it for me.

I think they would all look really sharp with tighter crops.

Good series, nice action in each shot! I wish we had baseball around here to shoot. Our schools are so small, they only run track.

I like "Back in time" the best of all. Good angle, good timing, good crop. Ball, face and action.

That may be answering the crop question- It seems better to be tighter, even if body parts are clipped off. That shot originally had the sliding player's entire body, legs, feet, etc. in the frame. Most seem to like it cropped in to the important part of the action.
