I was at a field last night where I essentially had field access -- within a limit... the field has no fences about 10 ft past first base. I was standing RIGHT there and had a foot 6" or so inside the playing field. Made getting shots SO much nicer!

I might have to pick your brain about using LR a little more effectively for this kind of work.

LR is excellent for getting WB and some exposure dialed in. I try and shoot a custom WB for each game, set it up and get all photos real close in one pass. Then minor adjustments to exposure as needed.

I also use onone software for some other adjustments, but they run as batch within LR. There are tons of effects and options in both LR and on one. I also use Nik plugins and imagenomic NR in PS.

Being able to batch process and especially catalog as images are imported is such a time saver. Templates when importing make bring games or events so much easier.

What lenses and body are you shooting with?

Some of the photos I have, when they are hitting or catching, their eyes are CLOSED!. I have no idea how they hit the ball let alone catch it when their eyes are closed like that.

And what do you know, this is my 500th post!

stuff about LR

My PP is even weaker than my shooting, and that's saying something.

I just picked up a 7D. LOVE the AF performance and the AF expansion. The camera is way above my league (ha-ha)!

I borrowed a 70-200 f/2.8 IS Mk I for the occassion from an old boss. I desparately need a monopod and I think I could get away with going f/2.8 non-IS on my budget (that got blown by the 7D purchase for video for an upcoming trip...) with a monopod, though IS is AWESOME.

You should turn off the IS when shooting sports. You don't really need it. A monopod is a must. I have manfrotto and it is perfect.

The 7d is a sweet camera. I cannot afford one right now, especially sine when I buy it, I want to pay cash and get a grip for it. I don't know if I need a MK IV because I shoot at high iso quite a bit and the MK IV is just sooooo much money. I mean it costs as much as I pay tuition for one of my boys to go to school!

Look on the buy & sell board here and fredmiranda.com for a used one. You can get a good deal if you are in the right place at the right time.

IS is a crutch for me with no monopod and TERRIBLE shooting form. I need to get together with some real photogs and have them show me how to do it "right."

My Rebel XS was gripped and I'm missing it terribly on my 7D. Probably will be one of my first purchases.

Look at sterlingtek batteries. They are pretty good and much cheaper than Canon. The ones I am using in my 20d last forever. Even when shooting with flash during wrestling season.

Sterlingtek is what I bought for my XS. They don't have LP-E6 yet as they're 'chipped' so 3rd party batteries don't register with the camera so you don't know how much juice you have left.

They are crafty designers.....it;s like Epson chipping their cartridges so you couldn't refill them.
