10-22mm ƒ3.5-4 USM :D

Best investment ever! Is on my camera 90% of the time, but I lost the lens cap over a cliff a few weeks ago... :(

It was 1977, I was 17. I bought a Pentax 50mm Fast f/1.4 SMC Takumar to replace my father's 50mm f/1.8 kit lens that was stolen from me (because of my stupidity) while I was using his wide angel on his Pentex that I was borrowing.

I put the 50mm kit lens on the ground in an abandon building while I used the 35mm wide angle in a different part of the building. I came back 2 minutes later and the lens was gone.

My dad made me replace it -- the store clerk said "no kit lens for sale, you need to buy the upgrade." The Takumar lens was a really nice lens. Many years later, when my father past, my siblings all agreed that I should inherit his camera and gear. I declined because I knew I would never use film again, so my brother took it. That lens is the only reason I sometimes regret that decision; it never occurred to me at the time that there are adapters for it that would allow me to use it with my Canons.

I'd say mine were all kit lenses to start with so 18-55 but first purchase would have been the nifty fifty.

Aside from the kit lens, it is EF-S 18-200mm for me.

Hmmmm... I believe it was both the 18-55 + 55-250 at the same time, then the 50 1.8.

First lens I bought? A Canon FD 50mm f3.5 flat-field macro to go with my then-new AE-1, back in 1976 or 1977. I don't seem to recall that Canon was marketing lenses with their bodies as 'kits', and the photography store owner said that 50mm with its macro capabilities will do everything I needed. The AE-1 was my first SLR, as I was fed up with my 35mm viewfinder Minolta camera.

As for lenses for my 'current' body...none. I knew I was going to full frame about 6 months after moving to a 30D from a Canon G-5 point-and-shoot. Shortly after buying my 60D, I started buying EF glass (mostly Ls) and sold off my two EF-S lenes. I upgraded to a 5D3 2 months ago. So far, I haven't found a need for any new glass...yet.

Other than the two kit lens that came with the body - my first purchase was a 85 1.8. I was shooting indoor volleyball and needed something faster. It's still in my bag today.
