EDIT: opps, realize i typed '2' twice.

ive been extensively reading up on cotton carrier, spider holster, and black rapid double R. they all have their pros and cons. for all of those that have done weddings/events with 2 cameras, what is the best way to carry them? assuming you're not carrying a bag with you, but if you are, do you prefer to put the 2nd camera in the bag and have 1 out? or have both cameras out and use the bag for lens, flash, and accessories?

the 2 weddings i have done with 2 camera setup, ive had my girlfriend hold the 2nd camera for me, but this time, she wont be around. i dont like using neck straps, so both of my cameras have no straps on them. i have a kata reflex E neck strap in the bag with me at all times if i ever need to sling my camera.

my cameras are 1dm2n and 5dc. they both have the canon e1 hand strap. the 5dc does not have a grip but have a camdapter plus manfrotto on the bottom to utilize the quick release for my tripod and provide a lug for my hand strap.

let me know what do you guys prefer.

I wish I could be of more assistance as I'm in the same boat as you. I currently have a 5Dc and a 50D, and whichever one mounts the 70-200mm gets the BlackRapid RS-4 I bought, while the other gets one of my Tamrac N-5059 neck straps to throw over a shoulder. I bought two so both cameras have the camera portion of the release end.

I'm ok with this for now, but I'm always looking for better. The Spider is probably top of my list right now. I think the Double R would be a bit cumbersome if you need to constantly be leaning over, or kneeling and standing up. However, the main thing I dont like about the Spider is the bracket that needs to be attached. Looks a bit bulky.

I'll be watching this thread closely too, I have two camera bodies gripped and one with a wide and the other zoomed. I'd be interested in how the options work with one of the bodies having a flash mounted.

I have the Black Rapid system, for 2 cameras.
I personally LOVE the setup. I haven't tried anything else, but for weddings, I love having both cameras quickly\easily accessible.

I have my 5D2 with a Custom Bracket with the 580 on top. It's bulky and I cannot carry 2 cameras with this set up. So, I have an assistant who holds the 7D with the 70-200 2.8 IS or 7D with 50 1.4. So, When I say "Switch!" I get the other one and my assistant takes the 5D2 from me. If I am shooting another event where I don't use the bracket, my 7D strap is very long, I use the POTN Optech strap with extenders and the 5D2 with regular lenth. This way I wear the 7D with the longer lens with the neck strap on the shoulder and the 5D2 strap around my neck. It's tricky, but doable. I have to shoot on the fly for some events and the 2 camera thing is tough.

Jsut startEd using the double R strap and I can't believe I waited this long. I shoot conerts and was getting sick of being tangled in 2 straps. The R strap is perfect. Especialy since the camera slides up the strap. You can also disconnect the 2 straps to meals a single strap.

@suzyview: i get what you're saying. 1 strap shorter than the other so they dont collide within each other. do your cameras have battery grips?

@cosmokid:i tried looking at the picture of the double R on their website, they dont have a back view..do you mind taking a picture of the back? is there a buckle where you can disconnect like you said to make it a single strap? thanks!

No grips, but I have both the handstrap and neckstrap attachments on the cameras, so I have to make sure they are pretty secure. I literally hand my 7Dwith 70-200 2.8 IS from my strap when I'm shooting with the 5D2. I have the double Optech strap for 2 cameras, which I've never used on a real shoot because imagine the weight of the two set ups I have on one strap. :) Very heavy. But if I had a camera and binoculars, that would be fine.

I've just bought the Blackrapid RS DR-1 double strap - very pricy but since my accident I can't really wear one camera round my neck without pain. I've got 2 x 40D's, gripped and with hand straps. On one I have the 100-400 lens and the other a 28-135 lens. On Tuesday I had this combo on for over 6 hours and coped fine. I hang the big lens lower than the other to avoid contact when moving around but on the occasions when I just use the big zoom I don't bother using a single strap - I just hook the other side into my belt. I'm off to an airshow tomorrow so can let you know in a couple of days how this outing went.

I would look at the spider system for your 1dmk2. You easily lug it on your waist with a flash. Cotton carrier would have a flash erect :O putting strain on your hotshoe base IMO.

You can consider the thinktank modular pro belt with the lens bags. Spider now has a clip so you can put the holster on that belt. You can probably put the spider belt at the same time so you have 2 camera's on your waist. Then you can have some primes on the side of your waist without messing with your gear bag.

I've found the 1dmkIII on my spider system and my 5dc or 5dmkII on my neck is a great setup. I use the original canon neck strap so I can roll it up with an elastic band so when I use the camera on the spider belt without having the strap dangle (can catch/snag on things)

I only use my Black rapid straps as a tether now for my spider. I actually no longer like the BR (I have two) or luma loop system since it dangles. The spider system will be in the same spot 100% of the time without acting as a pendulum. I'll use my BR (tether) when I'm in a situation where I feel the need for it.

You can easily adapt your neckstrap to your E1 hand strap.

The new buckle on the spider belt is AWESOME. Its one step better than the think tank 2 clip buckle system. So disregard on of my old threads on buckle problems.
