I don't post here very often, mostly on the bird forum. I recently had the chance to spend a weekend in Algonquin Park in Ontario and was extremely pleased with the amount of Moose that were around during the day. All in all 7 different moose sightings in 3 days, the last one i almost collided with on the way home. The way it was wobbly on its legs it couldn't have been more than a couple of days old, it was only maybe 4ft tall at the head and came within inches of the car and a motor home.
All C&C appreciated. All shot with the 5DMKII and 100-400

#1 shot @180mm

#2 @400mm

#3 @400mm this one made me reconsider how close as was when i noticed the hair on the back of his neck standing up and the ears pinned back, then he stomped his foot and grunted. I think i was only about 30 ft away

Great shots! I had close encounters with adult moose in the UP of Michigan and saw a 3 car wreck from a full contact encounter with a moose. Close is relative!! They are huge when you are in a small car. To a moose I suspect anything smaller than a tractor trailer is safe to run in front of at a full clip.

Nice shots, that is how the moose is telling you that you are to close. They drop the ears and the hair on their back raises up, and they can cover a lot of ground in no time flat.

Nice shots Woody. All I can think of when I see one is, "man, that's a lot of meat walking around". :)

Thanks Mitch, while I do enjoy the occasional moose dish I'm really not into hunting.

General rule for wild-life photography is not to get within 35 yards of LFM's (Large Furry Mammals) - however, very few LFM's read the guide-lines. ;) I have had moose so close that I could feel their breath - they walked to me, not me to them.

G'Jim c):{- ... 2x 50D (Both Gripped), 2x 7D (Both Gripped), 2x 5D Mk II (One gripped), 1x 60D, assorted glass (10-800mm), sundry accoutrements.
The beginner clicks the shutter and says "Let's see what I got." ... The experienced photographer thinks "How can I capture what I see?"
