Hi guys!

Need your critique on these shots. I've mostly always done 2nd shooting on weddings, but the photographer for this wedding showed up over an hour late so I took charge. I wish I had the confidence to do weddings solo, but even though the photographer I do a lot of work for doesn't know the technical aspect of the settings on her camera, for some reason she can get some great shots with that with program mode and that Carl Zeiss lens on her Sony.

I know the PP is everywhere on these.. but I want your guys opinion.. I'm REALLY liking the chocolate/sepia look.. but I kind of like that retro look. However, I'm thinking that "retro" look is a phase and isn't "classic" so I don't think I'll even show them to the bride.

Thanks POTN, you guys are great!

I'm recently loving (ok maybe not so recently) the more vintage toning, too, so I really like #3 and I would definitely show it to the couple. I do not like the cloud in the far left corner though.

Although black and white is timeless, I think #7 also begs for colour - I can just see that blue midwestern sky above the green grass!

#8 is cute :)

The processing on #2 does nothing for me but I think a quick tweak would help it a great deal. Also #5 seems a little nuclear...less saturation/vibrance/contrast - more dreamy like #3 would be more appealing, I think.

Of course, it's all subjective so go with your gut.

OT - I have family in Mankato! I'm looking forward to seeing them in September when I visit again. Let me know if you need a second shooter, I'd love to do some stuff while I'm back!

With these shots, I doubt they would have minded if the main photog didn't show at all. These are all good and with last 3 really standing out for me. Very nicely done.

Thanks for the comments guys. I really appreciate it.

kja - what would you do with #2? Most of my traditional outdoor photos are similar to this one. I guess it is pretty flat, maybe I'll play with levels :)

Here's the color version of #7

omg I *love* number 7 - much better in color, IMO. Gorgeous shot!

Plus - who cares if it's a phase (I know, everyone here will shoot me for that). If you're not editing all the pics in a "phase" style, and it's something the B&G like, then who cares if one or two are edited in a current phase, even if it will pass? They'll have several timeless photo's that aren't edited that way, as long as you don't go editing them all the exact same. Personally, I love the vintage phase. :)

3,4, 7 are very nice. I like 7 in color as well. I think they both work.

In 3, is that a patch of cloud on the upper left side? Just curious b/c I found myself drawn to it just a little bit. Not a big deal though...

Great stuff!!! :)

Girl. Or dude. Or whatever. You got skills! I loved #7 as is until I saw it in color and that is gorgeous! Wonder how the couple feels about the "real" photographers photos after seeing yours??

hehe.. thanks for the comments guys.. i really wanted to see if anyone noticed, but apparently not(which is a good thing). The clouds in #7 are totally edited in. When I took the pic it was super overcast and practically black clouds because it was about to rain and it poured so we had to go inside.

Heather - I'd probably warm it up a little if I was going to leave it in colour. And I'd be very tempted to black/white this one - maybe straight bw or maybe a little tone. I'd play around and look at the other images in the series to decide.

#7 in colour is beautiful, just as I knew it would be.

You did a lovely job and if you can handle the pressure of a wedding all on your own AND the rest of your images are good then there's no reason you shouldn't feel confident that you can provide a lovely service to couples!
