I have looked at both of these guys and they both seem to have good reviews. What do yall think? I like the Kata alot, but I'm not sure how durable it is.

I am Pro Kata, but I have heard many wonderful things about the Lowe Pro products too! I would weigh all your options before you choose, and don't forget to include the 1614 Pelican Case!

I love my ThinkTank Airport Security V2.0. Have you considered TinkTank?

Lowepro build quality is amazing...
now, by your size options, you're thinking of checking in the bags?
domestic or international?

if you're planning to ship...
1) any d-rings and such on the outside of the bag will get caught and get destroyed.
2) rigid frame will do you good in protecting your gear.
3) any thin wire or steel frame feet contraptions will get broken and bent.
4) wheel axel must be durable... VERY durable

but honestly, if i were shipping bags in flight, i'd do it in a Pelican hardcase... not a semi rigid roller.

check my sig and look at the lowepro pro roller x100 review... great build... great materials...
definitely the LP PR X series gets my vote... even over the TT series... despite my love for TT bags...

yep, saw that review, very nice... and the bag seems nice as well... has the right details where it's needed...

rigid and thick looking handles with not too much contraption.
simple wheel system
corner binding reinforcements
big chunky zippers.

only kinda hope the inside was not as messy... too much loose materials around...

just some quick comments... yea, everyone's a critic.

about the Kata...

1) handle... KISS is always best... not sure what that plastic thing is in the middle.
2) wheel... i'm honestly concerned at how easy it is to bend the metal
3) front feet wire frame... same as above
4) fixed d-rings that are not removable... hmm...

Thanks for all the comments so far guys.
I'm really hoping to find a bag that will allow me to carry on a plane.
I'm extremely paranoid about checking my camera gear, so I always just carry it on with me. So I'm trying to find the max size and durability I can for a carry-on.

Justin, when flying... KISS is the best.. Keep It Simple Stupid... sorry, not calling you stupid... but you get the point...

too much contraptions such as a removable roller frame and whatnot... heck, so what, you have to remove it and then check it?

honestly, i rather just roll the bag, get to my seat, compress the handle, then load up the bag and voila.

also... what are you flying? international or domestic?

If your main concern is being allowed to carry the case on a plane, I suggest you go with the Pelican 1514. It meets all FAA requirements for carry on. And in the event you end up flying on a small plane where overhead space is limited, you may be forced to check it at the gate. If you're paranoid about your gear, I think the Pelican is the only way to go --Waterproof, Hard Shell, and Lock-able.

haha no worries about the KISS, I know that motto. We used it all the time when I worked at the steel mill.

I completely agree about not having too much stuff going on with the gear.

I'll be flying domestic

Wow that case looks amazing. I will look into that seriously, thank you!
