I need to purchase a wide angle lens and need peoples comments / advice on which one they recomend. i would be especially interested in how they handle internal shots tripod mounted with no flash in potentially low light - ie internal church shots ...

Not too much to ask I hope

Canon 10-22mm
Sigma 10-20mm
Tamron SP 10-24mm
Tokina 11-16mm
Tokina 12-24mm

I appreciate any help you can give me on this

Thanks
Andy

Lots of threads comparing these UWA's. You might want to just search the forum. Each has its advantage. Personally, I chose the Tokina 11-16 for the 2.8 aperture. Great, sharp images as well.

Tokina 11-16 f/2.8.....if u can find one :p
Second place goes to Canon 10-22mm, and finally, third will go to Sigma 10-20 just because of the range. Otherwise, if you can live with 12mm on the widest, go with Tokina and save yourself some money (f/4).
But 11-16 is truly a one-of-a-kind type of UWA lens for a crop with a constant aperture.

the canon ef-s 10-22mm has been a hard one to knock off its perch.

but since you're talking handheld indoors, go with as large an aperture as possible - tokina at-x pro 11-16mm.

Jaetie - not hand held - looking at tripod mounted but no flash

I've heard about the new Tokina 5-11mm or something like that, I was amazed at how wide optics can go without quality degration.
Really quick (without hijacking the OP's thread :P) can someone tell me the widest lens out there?
I would love to see footage/photos of it with it on xD

i don't know what you're talking about with the new tokina...usually new stuff pops up on here within minutes of it being released by someone...so you might be wrong there...the sigma 8-16mm is widest for crops..here's just a few sample shots:

I'd look at the Sigma 8-16 for the extra width - you can never go too wide!

If f/2.8 is a must, or you don't need the width, then the Tokina 11-16.
