This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #289".

This game will end at 6 PM EST on Sunday, June 6th. Have fun and let see where my English Setter will end up!

With the glasses, I was thinking grunge.

curves level adj. on the dog.
USM 125, .2, 0
cropped dog.
added rust layer, lowered opacity.
added layer for scratches and lowered opacity.
added border layer, rectangle select, filled with black and erased with speckle brush.
added white background layer.
erased dog collar over border for a little OOB.

highlight/shadow adjustment

I love all the edits...

nanette37 - Great edit, especially the work on bringing out Molly's Amber eyes. Her eyes are kinda shadded by the sunglasses but you noticed the Amber and ran with it - well done.

cccc - Great use of the gradient background and the extraction. This is something I usually forget how good it looks when it's done right, like your edit - well done.

jb2u - Another Great edit - with the extraction and new background selection. Every time I see the OOB technique I make a mental note to myself that I have to learn how to do it. I think it works really well with your edit.

NigelD - This is another great edit, I love the branding of the DoggieSpex. With a little more of Molly's eyes visible I would have had to toss a coin to decide tonight's winner.

Personally for me this is a difficult judging because I think all the edits are winners. The edge tonight is going to go to nanette37 - the reason being the work on pumping up Molly's amber eyes. Considering the fact that nanette37 has never seen Molly in real life the edit is fantastic.

Below is an images of Molly where you can see her eyes, some say that's her best features ;).

Congratulations nanette37. All great edits!!!

I'll see you all at 289. I hope to see even more people join in. It seems in the past there were more participants.
