Delaminating Optech neoprene strap - anyway to repair?

Just after about a couple of months of use, my Optech neoprene strap is delaminating badly. It looks like the fabric layer is not properly glued to the neoprene, or there is a problem with the glue quality. Has anyone tried to glue the neoprene, and what type of glue works best? Is there a better neoprene strap in the market that does not delaminate so easily? Thanks for the inputs!

I can't imagine it being useful with glue on it. Buying a new one may be your only recourse. But there are other good straps with a real seam that may be better for how you use the strap. I have 5 of these straps and I've never had one do this. Do you sweat a lot?

Hi Suzie, I do a lot of work outdoors and yes I tend to sweat. The neoprene seem to soak up fast. I think a closed-pore or non-absorbent material would be better under these circumstances.

A good alternative

Then there is this one:

Do these take heavy loads reliably? Are they non-absorbent? I run around with my 70-200 f2.8 with the strap around my neck. I have switched back to my Canon strap for the time being because I am not sure how reliable the thin pro loop and quick connects are, but the neoprene was definitely more comfortable.

Have you contacted Optech about it?

Most of the Kiwis are now using POTN Optech straps, and I'm not aware of anyone having problems.
I know mine has well abused, and soaked up a fair amount of sweet with no problems.

It's possible you just got a bad one. Sadly it happens, but any good company will prepared for it and should be happy to resolve the problem.

You can get adhesive for neoprene from a dive shop. It's used for mending ripped wetsuits. Example - http://www.amazon.co.uk …ne-Adhesive/dp/B000SCJQYQ (external link)

did you wash the strap in hot water, the material shrinks while the neoprene remains constant causing the delamination

I'd say just contact Optech
