It must be a joke  ... I was working 3 days ago in very low light condition, where a 300L2.8 couldn't give satisfying results (I had to work at iso 4000).. in the mean time I had, with the 85L1.2II, very good results and 90% accurate focus and 100% f1.2 on rather quick moving subjects (at least quicker than a bride  ) ..

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=900836

The only issue was that 85mm was too short so I had to be very near the subject. I dream to be able to get a 200L1.8  ...

Thanks, I am looking into pocket wizard and 2 canon flash guns for these types of shoots, where I need to be close to subject in low light.

Fast(er) glass does not always solve low light problems just because of the DOF issues. It seems some people do not realize that, from many of the posts I read on POTN.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

 unless you try to be too near, I don't think DOF can be an issue with a 85mm .. (I think it's more an issue with a a 300@F2.8 and even more with an 400mm atF2.8) ..
But till now, even if I am not a people shooting addict , but I have got some of my family pictures, and they have got an head which is 100% of the time always completely sharp @F1.2
..
Just some sample in a dark winter day @F1.2 ..

I really never had a DOF issue with an 85mm  it's too short and AF is really accurate, slow but accurate... (I wouldn't say that with my 300L2.8, I have to be careful every time I use it, I can get sometimes only one eye focused )

I have recently purchased a Canon 1D mark 4 and an 85mm F1.2L II.

I have been getting so many out of foucus images with the 85mm it's not funny. Some times I get it bang on it's great, but a lot of time they are soft and oof.

With flash it helps a lot and you get nice crisp sharp shots.Taken with available light indoors and results are mainly displeasing. I've taken lots of shots at various ISO's and am not happy....

Anyone had similar experiences with this lens and is it a learning curve.

I have a 70-200 F2.8 and it's bang on much more consistently !

This is similar to what I see with my 50 1.2 and the 1D MKIII. My 5D does a better job with the focus at F 1.2. The DOF with the 5D at 24 inches is 0.4 inches, and 0.3 on 1D MKIII. If you toss this lens on my old MIA 10D, you get 0.2 inches. The 1D has larger focus rectangles then the 5D, so you can place the focus rectangles on the eyes with more precision. In a nutshell, these lens are harder to us on some cameras.
