http://sharewhereyoushoot.com/ (external link)

this is a new site I'm starting for sharing locations for photography. ANY sort of locations... Landscapes, Zoos, POIs, Urban shooting, Portraits, ANYTHING. Check it out. If you'd like to submit, follow the links to that page (submissions need to be approved by me so they won't pop up immediately, be patient please!). The image you link must be online (for now?) and NOT private, so make sure the site can see them.

And suggestions or issues can go either in this thread, or as comments on the last post on the blog (search for suggestions).

See what you guys think!

Thanks,
Ben

After a person makes a post and after your system hosts the image locally, do you give that user the ability to remove the image if/when they want to?

I think it's a cool idea. I'm always looking for new ideas of places to shoot locally.

nice link, thanks, and that was why I procrastinated on making the site for over a year....

personally, I don't care about sharing spots. I might not hold your hand to put your tripod in my EXACT location, but I'll put you within 100'. I know some guys will put you in the same parking lot, then give vague directions, and I know some will NEVER share ANYTHING.

Honestly, I don't care either way. I respect each method. But I've been going on group shoots with my forum for over a year now, and shoot with 1~5 other guys EVERY weekend. Even with one of us sharing a rad spot we all come back with different shots. That's showed me it doesn't really matter if you give ballpark locations, we all look at things differently and find different shots.

I've also been thinking there should be a way to share better spots for the "inner" group. IE share ~10 spots (or some other higher number) that are GOOD spots, and you get into the "private stashes" where you can share and see other people's better spots, but that only the inner group sees.

That makes sense - you have to give an incentive in some form to share, so I like this idea.

not just the incentive though, the idea that those that share good/hidden spots get to see other's good hidden spot. You wouldn't be inviting the possible morons into your spots, but just people you KNOW share better spots (and have shots taken there)...

What would be the point of removing it? The secret would be out, wouldn't it?

I was not talking about the "secret" but rather the image itself if, for whatever reason, the user wanted to or needed to remove it. I did not ask about removing the post, just the image.

added a TON more locations last night. RI is looking pretty much how I'd imagined most places will if people start to use this. :D

Awesome idea Ben, I have a few here in Alaska, that I will be adding, I would imagine that some of the tourist will appreciate having some in site on where to shoot.

It's all for fun, why not show some sites and see what others can create off a cool location? Unless of course they take better shots than you do !

Have a great day!
