Hey All...

Just popped in to ask those with a lot more knowledge about the night sky if anyone has heard anything about Mars being, well, really big in August.

I got an email from someone who got it from someone else that Mars will look to be nearly as big as the moon.

True? False? Rubbish?

Thanks for any educated information.

- Jay

PS .. The Powerpoint that came with the email mentions that this is so rare that anyone alive today will never live to see the next occurance.

Jay,

That email's been doing the rounds for years.
Was waiting for when that would surface again.
Here's a link on Snopes to last years claim

Thanks Guys...

The Snopes link is exactly the ammo I was looking for. Should have thought of that one myself.

Indeed...

However, my knowledge level on such matters could rival absolute zero as a low number so I figured I'd ask the astrointelligencia!

Thanks Again!

haha...so we're on about the same level then.
When I first received that email a couple of years ago I thought "how cool!" but like you, something just didn't seem right with it.

Ah, the signs of summer: the mercury hits 90, kids are out of school, the Mars Hoax is back...

My Dad and my g/f's Dad have both said this to me recently, quite convinced it's genuine. :)
