PSE 5, missing layer styles?

I'm using photoshop elements 5. A few months ago I made a few transparent watermarks without problem. I'm trying to make another one, but it seems that I'm not being shown layer styles (also shown under "artwork and effects". I'm trying to get to bevel and emboss. When I click on the artwork & effects button, I get a "no" symbol.

I'm creating a new image, transparent background, typing text on the only layer. It allows me to change the opacity, but that's the only layer style adjustment it's allowing me.

Any help on how to get shown the filters again?

Don't use Elements, but it might be you're working on a 16bpc document?

On the top tool bar under Window Click on Art work and effects. This should bring it back for you.

I figured it out, sort of. It wasn't showing me the graphic filter selections on the pane on the right side, but I was able to get to the filters/effects under the Filter menu and did what I needed to.

16 bit wasn't an issue, so I don't know why it isn't showing like it was before. But PSE 5 does what I need to (sharpening, printing, clone/heal) so it'll stay with me for the foreseeable future!
