Spent part of a wet afternoon today planting fruit trees. This little fellow turned up to help so a grabbed the 5d and flash, off camera on longish cord, and zapped him a few times.

Their true name is Piwakawaka, and the name fits well....continuously on the move with a cheeky little cry that always welcomes.

These are really cute little birds, and you have some beautiful shots here. Got a laugh out of me with that Crowbar comment and image.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.

I was pleased with the effect of the off camera flash and will take it with me into the deep forest to try and capture some of the more elusive birds. Need someone to aim it properly, though. It's a bit hit and miss trying to follow the bird with eye to viewfinder and aim flash at the same time. Also, with no spare hand, it means I need to use auto focus and not manual as I prefer to in the bush.
