I'm still pretty new to digital photography and would like your input on this photo of my daughter. I'm pretty happy with the lighting but I'm not so sure about the composition. I orginally thought the flowers in the background would be pretty but now they just seem distracting. Maybe I just should have had the white fence in the background? Any comments and critiques would be appreciated. I'm particulary interested on how you would have composed this differently. Camera was XSi with kit lens. 1/100, f/4.5, ISO 400, 33mm, fill flash -1. Very overcast day. Thanks!

Is this cropped at all?

She is gorgeous, the picture is good. I might have put her more in the center, I know rule of thirds and all but some portraits I like centered.

Try cropping on right to just include the flowers but not the tree. See if this is an improvement or not. The young lady would still be left of center, but not a perfect 1/3 like you have it now.

Also, could be my monitor but the WB looks a tad pinkish to me. And agree, she is adorable for a shot that appears to be straight from the camera. A little PP could make it a stunning shot.

Nice work. Very soft lighting which really suits the age of your daughter.

Agree with Dave on the crop.get that tree out, the the BG complements her. Very nicely done.

Thanks for the comments. I'll crop the tree out and see how it looks. As for processing, I have the original raw file to work with but I know very little about processing an image. I do have the Canon software and photoshop, but I need to educate myself on how to use them.

Skrim17- not cropped at all. Just straight from the camera.
