At my husband's gig a week or so ago I was shooting with my 30D and 50 1.8, a combo that has never really fialed to do well in this dark bar. Well the other day when the camera would go into energy save mode I'd hit the button to take a shot and the camera wouldn't turn on. I would have to turn the camera off let it sit for a couple minutes then turn it back on. Also the focus was off. Not what's in focus, but when I'd hit the button to focus it just wouldn't do it. After a few attempts it would then kick in and focus fine. This happened a few times over the night. I tried it the next bunch of days with all my different lenses and I couldn't get it to do it again. The camera has always "stuttered" a bit with the AF, kind of like if all my lenses had IS, it would take just a slpit second to really start focusing right.

My battery is fine and fully charged. My others lenses are fine and now the 50 seems fine too. The camera is clean, no dust issues around the contacts or anything. I'm not sure what else it could be. I've been panicing thinking I'll have to get a new camera (of course this is a great excuse for upgrading to a 5DII- I even have my husband saying yes to it!!) but I can't spend the money right now unless it's a NEED not a WANT.

Maybe I can't replicate it due to the lighting? But I tried it in a dark room this morning again with no problems. But i didn't have it on for hours.

He has a gig this saturday (a fairly big one to prove themselves with a promotion/booking agent type group who may get them a lot more gigs) and I can't have the camera do this again. Any ideas?

Even though the contacts aren't dusty, it still might be worthwhile to clean the camera and lens contacts with a soft cloth. A couple months back my camera wasn't communicating properly with my external flash, and even though the contacts looked clean, when I cleaned the camera hot shoe and flash contacts with a cloth, suddenly everything was working fine again.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.
