I'm pretty certain that it won't have that effect on me either. And if it can, I don't really want to know about it. :)

Tom, now you made me worried... you want to look like Pamela? :D

Claire, well you might have to dye your hair first... but the rest we'll fix in Photoshop. :D

this is why I'm afraid to shoot portraits of "usual" people with my camera.

I think I'd be more worried if I had a camera that took pics which made me look like Pamela Anderson... ;) Actually, in all honesty I do find her face beautiful without all that make up. I saw her with more natural make up once and she looked gorgeous. Wouldn't want the breasts though, but I'm sure Photoshop could give me a free plastic surgery without the pain. LOL

Now, if anyone could please make me look like Catherine Zeta-Jones I'd be more than happy!

Good choice though, she is absolutly stunning! Good actress as well, which is more than I can say about Pamela...

I'd like to offer a slightly different view on the topic.

At my wedding, I had a highly praised photographer do the wedding shots.

In the location shots, I had a very forced grin and slanted eyes in every single photo, because the photographer had placed me so I was looking directly into the sun.
In the one image where I did not have to look into the sun, my hair was ruffled by the wind (which I did not see, of course).

Also, in most shots my wife was shot at a 45 degree angle and in a pose that made her look like she was 15 kg overweight.

When we looked at the proofs, there was not a single image that we were happy with. We were quite disappointed.

However ... the main reason for our disappointment was that during our engagement 2 months earlier, we had done some location shots in Taiwan with a photographer and assistant and those images were about 500% better.

Although I did not understand a single order the photographer had given (my wife translated some), we ended up with the very tough decision that we had to limit ourselves to only 36 pictures for the engagement album .... one was better than the other.

They even had a collection of glasses without glass in them in order not to have reflections ... I had to choose one that resembled my normal glasses. They took a lot of time (unlike the other photographer). Lighting was about the same in both instances, (bright sunny day) also time of the day. The photographer in Taiwan placed us in the shade and the assistant used different reflectors.

So ... bottom line ... I have not seen any of the images you've taken.

Still, it *might* help to know some poses that make the people you photograph look good and pay attention to the details. When your subjects look strange in the viewfinder, maybe ask them to change the expression or re-shoot the image.

Just my 2c....

Best regards,
Andy

...all good points Andy and I agree fully, which is why I have offered to re-shoot at no additional cost. The sun was behind cloud cover, it was just very intense ambient light...so, I didn't have anyone looking into the sun, it was just bright everywhere, but we can try it in some tree cover perhaps if conditions are the same.

thanks,
daniel

daniel ...

I think it's not at all easy to start out with portraiture :D

One other idea ... maybe you could post some of the images here on the forum, I bet the forum members have some kind of ideas how your clients can position themselves differently to get results they really like.

Of course, nobody can do magic

Best regards,
Andy

You're prettier than her to begin with. Why ugly-up a perfectly good picture? Or are you looking for something like a "ridiculous-looking fake boob" plug-in?

No, its not easy, but its what I love. I really get bored quickly taking photos of anything but people. Here are a couple links where I posted some of the shots from this session:

I like the shots :D

Sure, some might be improve a bit (like the elderly couple sat in a hunched position on the log), but by and large I think they're not bad.

And the dad holding his 2 kids obviously has to work out a bit more ... then his smile won't be so strained.

Best regards,
Andy
