I was just wondering if anyone here get checks printed with their photos on them. I think this is a good way to display pictures, but so far I havent found a check retailer that lets display an image over the entire checks area.

I wouldn't bother for the same reason I don't bother with vanity personal checks: nobody cares except the person signing the front of it. Eventually they end up in a bank vault, perhaps even shredded at some point in time, never to be seen again.

I don't think vanity biz checks are a good idea. Like Don said, they'll end up shredded anyway.

This is true. Nobody is going to pause to look at them except you.

OTOH, I'm still kind of thinking about getting some of those custom photo US postal stamps. They are pricey, but I kind of like the idea of post stamps of my own photographs going out on my mailings.

My market (primarily Boomer women) still likes to receive handwritten (or at least hand-signed) cards.

Walgreens had those stamps on clearance, I wish I got in on that deal. : ) It was cheaper than regular postage I think.

On a side note, are business checking account checks different than normal checking account? I got a book of free checks and the numbers are way different than that of my normal checking account. the first set is 9 numbers, the 2nd is 8. I dont think Ill have time to go to the bank to get info on this for 2 weeks due to a trip coming up.

Unless I miss my guess the set of nine is your routing number. Identifies the FI and shouldn't change unless there's been an organizational change. Second set is your actual account number with, or without, a check digit.

All this being said. Vanity checks. Huge pain in the butt for the FI accepting the check and for whomever processes the check through C21. You see all those checks are running through an optical scanner at either the individual teller or branch level. Gone are the days of big batches of checks going to a proof department or a third party processor.

When you have a multitude of colors or shapes the OCRs have no idea what to lock onto and they have to be adjusted manually. If the image is too complicated even a manual adjustment can be impossible. This can cause a bunch of encoding errors and the impacted party is the person who wrote the check. That $25 check you wrote to a supplier clears your account for $1795.26 and all your bank will say is, "Encoding error, non-standard checks, you'll get your adjustment in 3-5 days."

My staff hates it when they have to take a check with puppy or comic images on the front written in glitter green ink. They KNOW that come the end of their shift that check will throw them out of balance.

when I was on the tax site, it needed a 9 digit routing number and a 16 digit account number. *not sure on the 16*, I just know I didnt have 16 digits to put it in. perhaps there is zeros in front of it.
