I have a YN-468 and YN 460 II on the way with a pair of RF 602.I also
have a few old flashes from the film days and I'm wondering if they will work on the RF 602s as well. Some of the old flashes have three contacts
and some have only one. Thanks

The only issue you might have is trigger voltages. I have no idea how radio units deal with high voltages and some of those older flash units can get up over 250v.

If voltage isn't an issue they should work fine.

I am using RF-602 with an old Nikon SB-24, works like a charm. As Titus213 said, only possible concern is trigger voltage. But SB-24 has 5 Volts, so no problem here. I've read it can handle max 12V.

I sometimes use my old Nikon SB-28 with my RF-602 which also works great..

You've got two problems:

1 - that flash isn't listed on the site given above. You can however measure it yourself. Measure the voltage between the center pin and the outside rail of the flash shoe. This will help determine if you want to connect it to anything.

2 - I doubt you'll find a max voltage for the trigger. Fortunately they are cheap enough that there is an easy way to find out.:D

There is one additional problem (there always is) in that the flash may just not work with a radio trigger. But that's not all that likely.

Finally got myset of rf 602's. UNFORTUNATELY it does not want to work with my Sigma EF 530 DG ST. its really weird actually. When i try to fire it off camera, nothing happens. Not even the test button will work. I try to turn the Sigma off, but for some god-aweful reason it disables that as well. I end up having to take the batteries out of the Sigma just to get it back to functioning order. I have the YN 560 flash and it works like a charm with the triggers. Could I be doing something wrong?

Trigger voltage is the issue, yep. The thing is, you can use other slave flashes you buy on ebay.. You can also try Vivtar flashes, or Quantarary flashes, or other Yongnuo flashes.

For me personally, I prefer Canon flashes since it matches other things in the bag, just like the brand "CANON" on my backpack (haha). Anyway, I had a couple 540EZ's (sold em on POTN recently), and they were from the film days, but worked just fine on top of the camera on TTL or Manual Mode. TTL mode with the 540EZ isn't perfect though, so I personally like the 540EZ in manual mode, and control the shutter/aperture. I usually leave my ISO at 400 when i'm flashing away.

540EZ is a great choice, it's only about $50-70 nowadays. You can use any other EZ flashes too, or you can use the 420EX or the 550EX which is for digital in TTL mode, and in manual mode as well... But these are much more expensive.

Turn on the flash, Grab a voltmeter (or multimeter). Set it to Voltage DC (looks like dashes --- and a straight line above it ___). Now, put the positive test lead to the litte center pin, and the negative test lead to ground, you can use any of the other 4 pins.
