Why wouldn't it?
It's just a mouse-replacement...

Well, if you don't have CS4/5 or plan to upgrade, then it's kinda useless to buy the Intuos 4. Because with early CSx software, it's only a mouse replacement. If you use CS4/5, then it's much more.

How so?
I've used a Wacom since Photoshop 6.

At least pressure sensitivity has always worked.
I'd presume (if Gimp has that feature) it would work there as well.

What is the difference in the Intuos4 Medium Table Non-Academic and Academic version I've seen for sale on Amazon? Is it just the fact one is supposed to be used for academic purposes and the other isn't?

Similar to software? Where the software really isn't different, just how you use it?

I bought a 8x6 tablet from monoprice. It was $37. Works great. I don't use it very often, but for $37 it comes in handy on occasion.

Here are the features:
* Large 8x6 inch working surface.
* 1024 pressure sensitivity levels.
* 2540 LPI resolution for pinpoint accuracy.
* 100 RPS report rate for speed.
* Allows large gesture drawing.

Good thread guy's, so in a nutshell what would you recommend for making selections and feathering? I do a lot of composite / montage work lately but still use a mouse and I must say its a ball ache!

Been trying to save up for the Cintiq for awhile now, some other expensive item always seems to get in the way.

Now for the kicker. I have used Wacom tablets before, but I am sort of ambidextrious.

I paint, draw and write lefty, but use the mouse righty. PhotoShop and Illustrator I usually go righty... I tried a friend's Cintiq and now I think I would be better off lefty... if I ever get one of these, my brain is going to hurt until I figure out which hand!

I have the Cintiq 12wx and wished I could have afforded the larger one but this works fine. I always have a hard time when I go back to my laptop and have to use the Intuos.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
