Wait until your gear collection grows...you'll be acquiring bags left and right everytime you get a new lens or a new body, eventually you will start recycling those other bags because you realize you don't always have to take the entire kit with you everywhere you go.

At least that's how I ended up with seven bags (four shoulder, three backpack)...the last time I went on vacation I took everything in a backpack but I also took one of my smaller shoulder bags for those times when I don't need my long lenses.

You'll get there, right along with the rest of us!

Ummmm unless your reading this thread and getting educated about the need for a larger bag from the get go. I have three bags....the Domke F2 in the mail due to arrive soon, my lowepro and a Canon bag. I was lucky and a pro photographer told me to make sure I purchased a bag that I could grow into to avoid just what seems to happen with everybody...purchasing multiple bags. Well at least hope to have all that I require. But....then again like lens I hope to not have the urge for another one LOL!!

So you're implying that bags are a bit like tripods; only need one? Rubbish. Unless you're coped up in a studio all the time you'll need a variety of bags, which you'll buy over time. Nobody who has a bit of gear needs all of it at the same time, and that being the case; why should they bring it? Far too bulky and heavy.

I guess I should have explained what I meant in more detail. I was trying to say that if you purchased one super bag from the start you could grow into it. I didn't mean that would be your only bag. As I stated I have three bags. One to hold all my stuff and then I have a Lowepro for when I go hiking or whatever and then another for just toting my camera and one lens and a few other items if I don't want to use the Lowepro.
Sorry for not fully explaining myself clearly enough!

PS. I have two tripods LOL!!

I don't feel nearly as bad now that I've seen some of those lists!

I've got three Tamracs and am sort of lusting after another - one that I had before and regret having sold.

Got one small holster-style bag for when I just need a camera and a lens or two.
Got a backpack for carrying several lenses, or both cameras, or just the 7D + bird lens
Got a shoulder bag that's technically "home" for all the gear, and lets me take the whole mess on a shoot.

But I could easily have more. Bags are too easy to justify :)

Depends on how much gear you have. I routinely will be using one of at least 4 bags without even considering the backpacks for hiking. And there are at least 3 others that are (less frequently but still fairly often) used with different camera setups. Any overlap after that is to reduce the amount of time I have to spend reconfiguring some of the smaller ones for different situations. The F2 was my first bag. About 7-8 years on I outgrew that and picked up the F1x (which was not available when the F2 first came out); then got some gear that wouldn't fit in the F1x so got the then new F7 Double AF. Seriously - if you want to stay at 3 bags, don't buy any more equipment than you already have. Which probably means configuring your router to block POTN and B&H.

Now thats the whole problem LOL!! Seriously no one can justify any ones reasons for
what amount of bags they purchase. If a person can afford say a s**t load like yours and wants them awesome!! For myself who is just a want to be someday photographer every choice I make towards gear has an impact as to how long it will be till I can afford the next item on my wish list.

I would have agreed with you for a year or more.

I was a huge addict

Until last month when I decided I was all set. I thought it would never stop. Ever. I have about 7. Sold 6. But now I can say...... The f3x and f10 are so perfect for me that I can finally browse these forums and not feel obligated to buy something. I will be selling off a few of my earlier purchases.

Good luck to the other addicts!!!!

I think it's possible, even for an addict, to stop buying bags.
