Woah! well thank you. I'm definitely no master of anything, besides my world famous chicken tortilla soup. I love to talk shop so let me know!

Checked out your work. Nice website. Good eye for lifestyle especially.

Thank you sir. I'm updating the Life Outdoors, Portrait, and Lifestyle sections as I type this, coincidentally! Added some winter and more summer stuff. Much appreciated.

I like this, I'm not sure if it's 'good' or not though. Opinions?

I don't give critiques often online because i feel like it's hard to not come off as an asshat, so just know i'm only politely offering my humble opinion.

I think exposure and processing and lighting are there. The shadow on the wall is soft enough where is doesn't bother me. I'm not sure what the expression has to do with the instruments though? I think with the lighting and composition which is straightforward to me, a pretty blank expression would fit well. or something super subtle, like the smallest smile or smirk he could give.

If I may: For me, the biggest area that could maybe be improved is the flatness of the space. It seems to me that the three things in the composition i keep looking at are the face (obviously) and then the mic, and then the hand. They're all on almost the same plane in space, and they're all relatively the same size, and in the same focus. I like the three "things." They make a triangle which is so important for composition, and they add the context, but I think something that might help is to create some separation between them.

Like maybe maximize your DOF control by zooming to 105 and going wide open at f4. then pull the mic closer to camera and also maybe cheating the hand away from the body a little bit. Then if you focus on the face, you still have the three areas of interest, but the light on the mic would probably be less, pushing it down on the "visual interest" list, and then the hand would be slightly out of focus compared to the face. That might increase the sensation of depth. Foregrounding (the mic) is always awesome.

Sorry if that explanation got too long.

Thanks, that makes sense completely. I've also just realised I didn't use my 85mm and shouldn't be in here!

The space we had to do this was crazy small and I found it very hard. I've loads of 'versions' of this shot, I literally got home, culled the rubbish ones and this one stood out due to the expression - but you're right, it doesn't actually mean anything.

Thanks for the input though, really appreciate it. :)

Amazing work as always, Aaron. Love the poses, processing, models, everything. The 85L is gold too.

So tired of people professing that a good portrait can't be made with a shorter focal length! Beautiful work! Done with Full frame or crop though, so I don't have to eat my words!

I dunno... is her nose inflated a bit?

It is... it's a good picture but there is definitely perspective distortion on the nose. 50mm used to be my favorite focal length on APS-C but I can't handle the amount of perspective distortion I get when using it on FF especially when trying to do a tighter portrait. Wider focal lengths only work consistently well on kids, IMO. Most of my tighter portraits are 135mm+.
