I've used eBay batteries for all my cameras without any problems. The only thing I pay attention to when buying is the capacity (mAh). Cheaper is not always "the same." I always buy the one that has a higher capacity than the OEM.

my opteka battery grip for XSi came with 2 batteries, no problems whatsoever

Same for my T1i, batteries included with grip seem to last. Got it through Amazon.

Just test the voltage for the off brand batteries and you'll be fine. I'm willing to bet "Canon" batteries are just rebranded from some 3rd party "off brand" battery. Just like how the Canon filters are actually rebranded Tiffen filters. It's all about charging a premium for the Canon name.

I don't think a filter can damage the camera like a cheap battery can.

Keep telling yourself that Canon batteries are the same as the ebay cheapies. Weigh your cheap ebay batteries and then your Canon battery and then tell me they come from the same factory. Maybe Canon branded ones use heavier paint for the lettering.

All I know is mine work fine, produce the same voltage, have over the OEM mAh capacity, and cost less. There's also different levels of off brands. Some of the previously mentioned aftermarket batteries in this thread have been proven and vetted. If you want to keep justifying your over priced purchases to make yourself feel better, then go right ahead. Who cares how much it weighs? It's a damn battery and I've yet to see wide spread panic that a trusted 3rd party battery has damaged a DSLR.

Never seen someone so defensive over batteries as to reply to every single post where someone used an aftermarket brand, haha. Narrow minded or insecurity, can't decide which. Do you feel you take better pictures with a Canon battery?

On a side note, my OEM Canon battery for my SD850IS was made in...(wait for it)...China.

Canon Cells are made in Japan and assembled in China. I am not being defensive about anything. I am just trying to tell people with open minds that it is best not to use an after market battery. I could care less what you use. What I don't get is people like you will spend $1000+ for a camera and then quibble about the few $ difference between a Branded Battery and a cheap aftermarket battery. Sounds like you are trying to justify being whatever.

Nothing to justify. See, unlike you, I'm not telling people to go one way or the other. Just stating the facts and my own personal experience so that people can make their own decision.
