From second hand information, the rotor wash from an Osprey is not something you want to experience casually.

They had one land up in New England last year for some kind of public gathering and another aviation shooter reported that it sent trash cans flying, blew over much of the heavy, interlocking aluminum fencing used for crowd control, knocked some people on their backsides and generally played havoc with all and sundry in attendance.

Needless to say, when it came time for it to depart, they backed people, well, way the hell up!

I remember when that happened Jay. I think you can find video of it on Youtube as well.

When the one in the shot I posted took off they actually moved it back from the crowd 100 yards or so. I was a bit farther back than that but didn't have any trouble. Those blades are huge too!
