I had a different brand of the same thing. It worked pretty well. My biggest gripe with it is that I had to collapse it every time to get it in my camera bag. It didn't hold up to that kind of treatment. I found it impractical.

It does cut down on the light coming from the flash considerably. I get the same results now by bouncing the flash correctly and using the FEC.

Ain't nothin but a thing.

i guess it would be better for outdoors with nothing to bounce on if OCF not available the time?

thanks for the replies!

I am trying to get it to work as OCF. Just for single headshots most likely. But I would like to know how effective is the diffusion for this kind of softbox? Since its only one layer of diffuser.

Bigger is better in this case.
I have the Lumiquest softbox III which is 8"x9". Here's an article about it by David Hobby:

I used it in this shot for on-axis fill:

Overall, I don't use it much anymore these days. It's just too small still somehow.

This product came across my mind. But the thing is I wont be using it often so quite pointless having to spend that amount of money. So looking for alternative.

At about 1/10th the cost it seems like the $5 ebay model might be worth a toss and if it works out the Lumiquest is probably a higher quality option if you like the results.
