Hi all. I've been enjoying and learning by reading the posts on this site for a few months now, and now I've got something to post as well. Bear with me - I'm still learning how to post here. Thanks to everyone participating in the discussions here: I've loved reading them.
My original intent was to find a way to have the golden full moon of solstice in the frame with a section of the temple structure. When I arrived at the site I scouted out just where I'd have to be then to make that happen in one shot. My best estimate of the ideal location was that I'd be hipdeep in Lake Michigan with a longer lens than the 28-135 IS USM (which is currently my only lens for my 10d), and that I'd have to cut down some trees...
Realizing the uncomfortable ramifications of that plan, I cast about for another view, which led to this image.
This image is a composite of two, taken at 11:30 at night in early June, of the Bahai Temple in Wilmette, Illinois. The first image was to expose for detail in the temple, allowing the surround to go black, and the second exposed for the surround, which blew the temple to blocked up white. I processed the RAW files in PhaseOne and then composited them in PShop. Now I'm working on balancing the to images and deciding just how saturated to make the surround layer. I'd love to hear critique and/or advice. Thanks!
