Anyone here own both of these lenses and find both to be useful? I'm considering picking up the 50L because of it's versatility with the awesome bokeh. I own the 35L and it is great for many things, but when shooting people, generating pleasing bokeh isnt it's thing. I also have an 85 1.8, but for some reason I'm still lusting after the 50L.

Forgot to mention that I shoot FF on a 5d2.

If you can live with the potential focus shift issues of the 50L sure why not. If bokeh is what you are after then have you looked at the 85L II? For versatility going wider makes more sense.

Save a little longer and get the 85L.
You wont be disappointed

I own both, both are great lenses to own. Personally I use my 50L more than the 35L, but they're both great. I will say though--if these are your only 2 primes, you may want to consider 2 primes that aren't so close in focal length.

If your main goal is shooting people, I'd say go with the 85L as well. You could always trade your 85 1.8 for a 50 1.4 and have all three FL's covered.

I own both and use my 50L more often... It's perfect on FF for shooting relatively up close in small quarters and still having a decent FOV. My fav lens

I own the 17-40L, 35L, 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 70-200L.

I want to sell the 17-40 and 50 1.4 to fund the 50L. I really like the 35L but I need more bokeh. Can I get away with shooting 35L and 85 1.8 to cover my needs? 50mm has always been my fave focal length. But i'm so emotionally attached to my lens, its hard to sell them away. =(
