Recommend me a Domke

I have been reading reviews of Domke bags and I am getting confused. I want a bag that will hold 5D2, Grip, TC, Flash, 17-40, 24-70 2.8, and 70-200 2.8 w/ hoods. Some say the F-2 will and some say it won't. Is someone here using the F-2 for similar equipment?

The F-2 is quite large. I think you can fit all that in it. Jon should come on soon. He can definitely answer that for you. I don't have a grip, so my Domkes are not made deep enough.

Wow sounds like you collect bags like I collect shoes LOL!
I was looking at that Domke F-2. I just want to get one really good bag so that I can have
all my stuff like my XSI, 580EX11, 55-250, 24-105, 60 macro and some supplies.

you could look at the J-1 and J-2 series bags also, black ballistic nylon, very ruggedly made. they're a little more expensive than the regular bags but IMO can take more abuse.

It will fit all of that, but not with the 70-200 attached to the camera. I have the f4 copy, and the fact that I can't put my camera with that lens mounted in the bag slightly bothers me, but I can live with it because the bag is just so damn awesome in all other parameters.

Thanks, looks like it might be a little tight. the 70-200 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 with the hoods reversed are kinda fat. might try one anyway.

For that, you could use the F2. Just get the 720-230 3-compartment insert and compress the compartment at one end (the outside padding on the inserts is removable so you can cut it down to fit). Body with 70-200 on its side in the main compartment; 17-40 and 24-70 in the two remaining (uncollapsed) insert compartments.

Thanks Jon, I think I'll get one coming this weekend. Might have the Mrs. do me a custom insert. I'll let you all know how it works out.

BTW. Do I want the "Ruggedware" or original? Is there an advantage to the "ruggedware"?

Ruggedwear is basically a waxed canvas so it's still more water-repellent than the regular canvas. OTOH, the Ruggedwear canvas material (ignoring the wax) is lighter-duty than the regular canvas, and the regular canvas is quite water-resistant in my experience.

The ruggedwear is also more flexible and softer feeling in my opinion than the regular canvas. Repels water well but I've never tested the regular canvas in wet conditions. The f-2 is a great bag. I have that one as well as the f-3x which is slightly smaller.

Found a used one in sand on flea bay. It's on its way!

how about f-803 for f-5 series?
