follow focus on a Tiffen Merlin?

So I am looking at the Tiffen Merlin steadicam-type stabilizer.

Does the stage(i think that is what it is called) support the use of a focus follower type device?

depends on which ff you're hoping to add. some require rails, some can be connected directly to the base of the camera - you'd probably need to do the latter

if you're talking about a manual follow focus unit though, the bigger question is why use it with a gimball stabilizer. aside from balance issues (can't think of any ff units that are perfectly balanced on both sides of the camera), by touching and manipulating the ff knob, you'd be disrupting the equillibrium of the stabilizer. ideally you shouldn't be touching the camera or anywhere on that whole top area at all.

Agree with bpaulette. You cannot be twisting a focus ring thus putting torque on a camera that is sitting on a gimball, you are just going to twist the camera around. Besides, the idea of the Stedicam is to move. Follow focus by moving your FEET
