I know I need a bigger lightbox....the shadows are bothering me in this shot.

the first one is interesting, never really seen a match head combusting before.

the second one would be much better in a "real world" situation, perhaps on a table, or some carpet. i'm imagining indian in the cupboard type toys coming to life, so to depict this in your home/apt/condo/box or whatever would be much much more inspiring, interesting, and overall entertaining.

also it's about time somebody take care of that pinochio, put him in his place.

+1 for number one. I imagine the exposure was tough to get at first. Yes?

I might try moving the background further back to eliminate the shadows. Or as muse amorte said, try a different real world scene.

Nice job with the match head

wow, more info on #1 would be cool. what lens and how close was it to the flame? How were you able to light the match and still get it that sharp?

Used a Sigma 105mm Macro with a full set of Kenko Extension tubes. Had the match laying on a glass ashtray with the match head sticking about 1/4 inch off the side. Lit a second match, let the flame die down to almost nothing and held it underneath the top match until it flared and I shot the picture about mid ignition.
