My current set up for weddings is 5D, 1D MK IIN, 17-40, 24-70, 135f/2, and 200 f/2.8. The recent acquisition of the 1DN has made me want to upgrade my 5D to a 1Ds MK II. Do you think it is best to keep my set up the way it is or would it make sense to sell the 5D and 17-40 to get the 1Ds MK II? I rarely ever use the 17-40 even though I love the lens.

I was wondering, is the 5D or the 1D Mark II better for weddings?

I have only used the 1D II N for one wedding so far but both definitely have their place. The full frame and the high ISO of the 5D are very handy at times. The speed and the autofocus of the 1D II is also very nice to have. That is why I'm thinking seriously about selling the 5D for the 1Ds II to get full frame with the superior auto focus. After shooting with the 1D II the autofocus on the 5D just doesn't compare at all.

I use both and they both serve their obvious purpose. My focus never fails on the 1D, the IQ is superior on the 5D. If it's an outside wedding during the day I actully prefer to stick mostly to the 1D. If it's an indoor wedding at night I stick mostly to my 5D classic or Mark II.

i may be confused, but would you want to do it the other way around? since the 1d has better focusing system, wouldnt it be better to use the 1d during low light/night and the 5D for daytime/well lit?

The 5D handles higher ISO better (in my opinion) so I would use them in the same way...5D for low light, indoor photos.

i wonder if anyone uses the 1ds for weddings-- the AF system is the same, but i believe the fps is much slower (not necessarily a wedding necessity, but the regular's 8.5fps is pretty nice)

AFAIK Lloyd uses a 1D3s, as well as the 40D, D700, etc.

I think picturecrazy here on POTN uses a 1Ds - can't remember if it's a mark II or mark III.
