I recently did a photoshoot for a couple. They are in the process of deciding which prints they would like to buy from me. I received and email saying that they just got engaged and the they would like to use one of my prints on the their announcements as well as there invitations. This is great news to me much more business.

My question is due to my lack of experience with weddings and such. My first question is how much do you charge for wedding invitations and announcements since they will be buying in bulk around 300. I would imagine is would be less than the price one would charge for a print that size, since they are purchasing so many.

The second question is those of you who have designed these sorts of announcements were do you get them done, I currently do all of my printing with WHCC. I am not sure if they do invitations and if they do, are they a good one to get them from.

Thanks

Have they actually asked you to do the design work of have they just asked you for permission to use one of your pictures within the design.

If I had received a similar request I'd have assumed (unless they said anything to the contrary) that they wanted a single jpg file to use or pass to their designer or print house who will do the design for them.

If you are doing everything for them, pricing wise don't think of this as 300 print sales as it is in reality a license to use a single photo plus design cost for the invitation plus print costs and of course profit.

WHCC do greetings cards and the like - prices are on their web - if they want fancy stuff like bows or ribbons on their cards then you may have to look elsewhere.

I would guess at Nightstalker being spot-on. What they are asking for is an image they can pass on to their printer.

If they are buying a lot of prints from you I would suggest that you maybe "give" them the image, on the understanding that they leave a "Photography by" tag line somewhere near the photo. How about vertically up the spine of the invite? (Assuming it has a fold)

If they agree, make sure you also agree on the crop that will be used and that they stipulate this to their printer - as they have a habit of cropping photo's how they want them.

OP- By what you I have to agree that it sounds like they're only interested in using one of their prints. Not do announcements or invitations for them. Unless there's more to this e-mail you're leaving out?

Thank you for all the replies, here is half of the email

"Now I have to plan a wedding:) I've decided to use one of the shots for our Announcements and Invitations; however, I know you like to use this particular company for printing, but do you use other companies that may be a little cheaper because we are possibly looking at 300-350 guests for our wedding?"

What made me think she wanted me to do the design was the fact that she was complaining about the price of prints, so I assured her that since she would be buying 300+ that each invitational would not be as much as a normal print cost.

Nightstalker can one access that greeting card section you mention on ROES, or do i have to do it directly from their websight.

Thank you

Sorry, I don't know what ROES is - TBH I'm UK based and had not heard of WHCC until reading your original post. I did a simple google search and looked through their site.

Have a look at : http://www.whcc.com …ss_Printed_Cards_0110.pdf (external link)

As for how best to do it I'd just give them a call.

Ok I sent her another email, and she would like me to do the invitations, so it is more than just getting the rights to the photo.
