Well, I have always wanted to start one of these and there isnt one for this lens(I dont have one :(). I started seeing samples from people. Soooo its that time!:D
Im curious to see how this does again the 17-55!
Im hoping the build will be better. Maybe then I can get myself a decent walk around!

I can't wait to see some test shots. I am a little disappointed with Adorama since I placed my pre-order with them and they still show no stock when Amazon had stock and shipped them out already. Hopefully Adorama gets a shipment in soon. I have been using my 50 1.8 as a walkaround since I already sold my Tamron 28-75..

OK, here are the first pictures from my brand new sigma 17-50...
These are just snapshots, but I figured you rather see some pictures then non :D

These pictures are right out of the camera just converted from RAW to JPEG and just changed the image size, to 600x900.

First up is a picture that I believe will interest a lot of people.

Amazing bokeh and nice sharpness, but crazy expensive.

It's slightly more then the Tamron 17-50 VC (Tamron average price is about $650, the Sigma is $669US). Considering you get EX build, and HSM (a form of it anyhow) and the fact that it SHOULD have better IQ then the Tamron(VC) seems like a fair deal to me. I've only seen a small handful of pics thus far, not enough to make any kind of comparison to the [$1099] Canon 17-55IS yet.

Exactly. =)

bw!

I think the bokeh on all of the 17-50/55's are pretty shotty. Just to wide to really create a good background blur except maybe at 50mm(Also unless you really close to something.)
There just good walk arounds really.

Thought I would start a thread comparing the specs of this lens vs. Canon 17-55IS vs Tamron VC....
https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=10358083#post10358083

Interesting this is the lightest of the bunch (slightly lighter then the Tamron)

I can only compare the lens to the few lenses that I have.

The AF is faster then my Canon 50mm f/1.4. The 50mm AF ring have to travel more then 180 degrees while the Sigma 17-50 only turns about 30 degrees. So even if the actuall motor on the Canon lens might be faster, the long travel distance makes it slower in real life.
The build quality of the lens is slightly lower then the 70-200. I base that on the more plastic feel on the lower part of the lens. Don't get me wrong, though, this is in my opinion a high quality lens. There is a bit of weight to it and it feels like a solid build. The barrel extends about an inch when zooming, see picture below.
I haven't tested the OS that much but it seams to be doing the job well. 1/15 isn't a problem hand held.

Yea, from the pics the focus throw does look to be pretty short(just like the 17-70's)

Well is there anything you dont like about the 17-50 as of yet?
