I looked for a hood for my 10-22 for months, no luck. Finally placed an order for it here:

They also showed it on backorder, but got it for me in a week. Cost was $29.

I sold mine last week to a fellow board member for 25 dlls. It was from my 17-40L. They both use the same lens hood, so just place a Wanted Thread in the market place and maybe someone will sell you a used hood. I bought an EW-83DII instead for the ol' 17-40.

oooohhh, don't even bring that up lol. Check out prices for say .... a 500 f/4 lens hood, then you'll see how cheap your lens hood really is :D:D:D

I have to agree with you there, 50 bucks is pocket change compared to almost 600. Might as well buy a new lens.

Surely this is a case for a cheap Chinese rip-off? As you say it's just a piece of plastic so there's nothing to go wrong. You can get them on Ebay for around $17. Even got Canon EW-83 printed on them and they are exactly the same shape and size.

It be honest with you... I was gona buy a lens hood, but i said screw it, im gona spend the extra cash and buy a 17-40L and share the hood with my 10-22. Ill also share filters and such so im sure this is a much better move. After a solid dell deal, the 17-40 starts to look real cheap.

RE: janosphotovideo and that elusive lens hood...

Apparently in stock as I ordered one about an hour ago and it has been confirmed as shipped via UPS. For me, a less costly alternative to also buying a 17-40

Best to all

We always pay for "brand recognition"

The hood I ordered shipped today and will be here on Monday (standard shipping). Helps that Janos is in Harlingen and I am in Austin TX

Nikon, Pentax, Olympus etc all treat accesory hoods as if they were cast in gold....

Holy poop! I feel stupid now after reading this thread. I didn't know that there was a photography equipment store here in the Rio Grande Valley. I better go there soon....well, maybe I shouldn't.

Someone suggested that on another forum and I bit. The hood is not as heavy plastic as the Canon hoods, but works fine--as well as a hood on the 10-22 will work. You're right--even has Canon EW-83 printed on it LOL. I actually had no problems shooting with it 'unhooded', but since I have and use hoods on all my other lenses, I decided I would try this one.

I paid $49 w/ shipping and insurance for my hood on ebay via Hong Kong.

I wanted the hood, that was the going rate, else good luck finding one, law of supply and demand :D Capitalism is a wonderful thing.
