They both use the same lens hood, so just place a Wanted Thread in the market place and maybe someone will sell you a used hood. I bought an EW-83DII instead for the ol' 17-40. Dr. David de la Llata

Might as well buy a new lens.

As you say it's just a piece of plastic so there's nothing to go wrong. You can get them on Ebay for around $17. Even got Canon EW-83 printed on them and they are exactly the same shape and size. www.cankitaphotos.co.uk

I was gona buy a lens hood, but i said screw it, im gona spend the extra cash and buy a 17-40L and share the hood with my 10-22. Ill also share filters and such so im sure this is a much better move. After a solid dell deal, the 17-40 starts to look real cheap. Canon 20D w/ 18-55 Lens Kit, 6 gigs CF Cards

The hood is not as heavy plastic as the Canon hoods, but works fine--as well as a hood on the 10-22 will work. You're right--even has Canon EW-83 printed on it LOL. I actually had no problems shooting with it 'unhooded', but since I have and use hoods on all my other lenses, I decided I would try this one.
