I cannot select the "use os settings" on the color managment tab of DPP. Does any one else have this and know how to fix it?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "OS" settings?.

Try selecting an an image. I think that's what you are referring to?

If you just have DPP opened and showing just the thumbnails, almost all the menus will be greyed out (as far as I can remember). Is this what you mean? What specific setting are you talking about when you say "OS"?

Peace,
D.

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

Yes, I have the same thing, sort of. On my PC it's o.k., but on my wife's laptop it is greyed out. Both machines are XP, so I don't understand why that is.

OS means Operating System. match14 is asking about DPP's Preferences where the monitor profile needs to be set.

I'm aware OS means Operating System..I just didn't see any settings in DPP that referred to it at first..looking again, I do see the choice to use sRGB, OS system or Monitor profile....I believe that Canon suggests using sRGB. That's the default setting for the cameras and apparently for DPP as well so I'm not sure what changing the setting would do. Over my head.

As for it being grayed out on some laptops, my guess is that's because many (if not most) laptops don't have a dedicated graphics card, they just share memory with the main processor.

Peace,
D.

To over-simplify a complex subject: A color managed application will translate the display data sent to the monitor from sRGB numbers to equivalent numbers in your monitor's unique color space so that they will be displayed correctly. In order for DPP to do that the monitor must be calibrated and DPP told where to find the monitor's profile. If the OS is using the profile, DPP can, in Windows editions, just be told to use the same profile as the OS.

The info about laptops not having a graphics card sounds like that may be the answer.

I have an HP desktop PC running XP Pro and I do not have a dedicated graphics card - just the onboard graphics chip.

Still, all three options in the "For display" section are alive and selectable.

Set the monitor profile for monitor profile.
Set sRGB for working space.
