I second Snyderman's comments regarding the suitability of the Sigma 85 f/1.4 for indoor sports.

I shoot a lot of gymnastics and rented a copy last month to use ( on my 7D) at a competition along with my existing 85 f/1.8, 100 f/2, and 135 f/2. The Sigma takes gorgeous pictures and it is a real advantage to be able to access f/1.4 or f/1.6 in some of these caves the girls compete in. BUT, the Sigma has a hard time following the action around the floor and the beam. On stop point shots the images were superb, and when the Sigma decided to play ball, there were some nice floor exercise images. About 3/4 of the shots involving movement towards/away from me the Sigma focused two meters or so behind the action ( behind them when moving towards me, in front of them when moving away). The AF speed on the Sigma is no match for any of the Canon primes mentioned above.

Very nice lens, but not for indoor action sports.

Bryan over at TDP has posted crops of the Sigma 85 now, here compared with the 85 L II at f1.4:

Wow, Canon had better be praying he had a bad copy, because otherwise I think they are likely to experience even more of a slow-down in 85L sales.

Wow is right! I think my copy of the 85L performs better then that but the Sigma is certainly impressive.

People have sent me PM's ridiculing me for my comments about my Sig 85 being better (In a number of ways) than all the 85L's I've owned......

Dude from the Digital Picture will has my utmost respect, usually he's Canon all the way, will be interesting to hear what he has to say about it.

Considering myself extremely fortunate to have received a copy that focuses accurately. Usually, if a product has random (bad) issues, it finds me! Not this time, thankfully.
