Terrific portrait of the gentleman. Great detail, pose, and I like the backdrop. One unsolicited suggestion however. Pictures taken of me come out with a lot of red in my face, like in this shot. As I find it rather unflattering, I desaturate the red a bit and lighten it up a touch, so as not to look, well, kind of boozed up;) Maybe he doesn't mind, but if you haven't tried it that way all ready, you might want to consider comparing a "less red" edit and seeing how they look side by side. Hope you don't mind the suggestion.

I don't mind at all. I'm not even sure what the backdrop was for this photo, but that's the great thing about f/1.4. :D

I actually already did take down the reds quite a bit, though I was worried about losing the color in the flowers. The walls of this building were a weird red/brown so many photos came out a bit strange when bouncing a flash. Below are three comparison shots.

Original (SOOC):

My edit (increased exposure, contrast, slight desaturation):

Yeah, I see what you mean. There is a tradeoff. Your original edit does have more energy, but my eyes certainly did go those blood vessels in the nose pretty quickly, whereas they don't in the revised one... Either way, though, it's a very nice portrait.:)

Why not just selectively change the red saturation in the face instead of doing it globally. Then you keep the colors in the flowers. Pretty easy with photoshop or the adjustment brush in LR.

Question for the owners of this lens: would you recommend to go for it on a 7D or the Canon 85mm f/1.8 is a better call? Thanks for your help folks! :-)

Depends on you, I think. I originally used this on a T2i, however, and loved the look wide open. Both are great lenses, however. I think the Canon has faster AF, but if you want narrower DOF and more low-light shooting, the Sig would be your better bet.

A few from my first engagement/family shoot. The more I shoot, the more I keep coming back to this lens as my "go to".
