It locks focus speed plenty fast for me on the 7D.... not as fast as the Canon 85/1.8 but certainly not SLOW like the Keg. It's quite acceptable.

Nice lightbox presentation Tyler. This lens truly is amazing. As much as the 17-55/2.8 IMHO.

Here are my sample shots. wide open @ 1.4

anyone know how to post exact 100% crops when using lightroom 3? I had to use the 1x1 export rather than the exact 100% crops.

  1. Select the photo and open the develop module
  2. Click the crop overlay tool or hit the "R" key on the keyboard
  3. Click the crop frame tool and draw a crop frame on the photo. You can set the aspect ratio from a pull-down list or select custom from that list and draw the frame without constraint.
  4. After you've drawn the frame and released the mouse, you'll notice that the dimensions of the frame are now listed with the file information (file name and capture date/time) to the left of the image
  5. Due to forum rules you have to make sure that those dimensions are 1024 or less. Do that by dragging the resize handles on the cropping frame. The reported frame dimensions won't update till you release whatever handle you're manipulating
  6. Once you've got the frame size to your liking, you can click inside the frame and drag the image (not the frame --that always stays in the middle of the screen) to position exactly what you want cropped in the frame
  7. Once everything is right, hit the "enter" key to commit to the crop.
  8. Go to the Library module and export the photo to either your hard drive or wherever you're going to store it on the web
  9. In the export dialog make sure that the image is not resized on export

That's it.

At first it looks like a horse's ass. But click it, and it turns into a unicorn!

How do you owners find the colour fringing?

Seems quite apparent in this review

Got mine yesterday! Ran out during lunch to take some shots of my car. I'm loving this lens so far. Can't wait to use it more over the weekend.

I shoot Nikon (D700) but still enjoy this forum  All were wide open:

Some nice examples of what this lens can do on this page...The lightbox examples sure do show off the wicked bokeh this lens can produce....

Nothing spectacular here, but I happened to have my 85 with me on my snowy morning commute (as a passenger for once)....It doesn't snow here much....2 inches paralyzes the city.

This may be the best Sigma lens yet. I was planning on replacing my Sigma 70-200 with the Canon version II, but I think I am going to go with the Sigma prime trinity instead. I can always rent the 70-200 IS when I need it...

The 70-200MKII is a very nice lens and I think I would prefer it above the sigma trinity.

Really? Why would you rather go with the zoom?

I would hate to have to choose...I bought a Sigma 70-200 for @ $650 so if I needed a zoom for like....kids sports , I have one....It's sharp, it's fast and it's accurate.....
I shoot with primes 95% of the time, but I like to keep a standard zoom trinity for when i might need em....If you don't use zooms too much I sure understand renting when needed...

I also own the Sigma 70-200. I normally use it outdoors, so don't really need the IS. I rent the Canon IS when I shoot events.
